Taqueria Lupita at Woolworths – An Extraordinary Birria Taco Experience in Puerto Vallarta

There are two Woolworths in Puerto Vallarta – one off of Francisco Villa near Cinepolis and one located on C. Juárez at the edge of the Centro neighborhood, just two blocks from both Hotel Rosita and the northern end of the Malecon.

In front of the Woolworth on C. Juárez is an incredible taco stand serving some of the best Birria Tacos you will find in Puerto Vallarta – Taqueria Lupita!

Madeline Milne, author of the Moon Guide to Puerto Vallarta recommended this spot to me when I interviewed her for the Travel Treasure Podcast.

One of my wife KC’s all-time favorite foods is tacos, so the very next time we traveled to Puerto Vallarta you can rest assured we made it a point to make our way over to Taqueria Lupita to taste for ourselves.

Miguel Makes The Birria Taco Magic Happen at Taqueria Lupita

We had delightful experience at Taqueria Lupita and the highlight for me was meeting Miguel.

Miguel has been making tacos there for over 50 years! His extensive experience is apparent the moment you take your first bite.

These tacos are perfectly cooked and the cup of consomme you get to dip your tacos in is divine. While you are there make sure to get whatever agua fresca Miguel is serving. While we were there we enjoyed a jamaica (hibiscus) agua fresca.

Birria Tacos – The Real Breakfast of Champions

Taqueria Lupita generally opens at 9 AM and they close when they sell out, which can happen by lunchtime. By the way – I have read in two different travel books and have been told by a number of people who are local that in Puerto Vallarta Birria Tacos are a breakfast or early lunch thing. Who knew?!

We made a point to visit Miguel at Taqueria Lupita right when he had opened to ensure that we did not miss out. Following our morning Birria Tacos we walked quite a ways down the Malecon, which is another wonderful Puerto Vallarta destination not to be missed!
