International Xinomavro Day Nov 1st 2020 – Enjoying a Bottle of 2016 Xinomavro From Sakalaki Winery Plagia Kilkis Greece
Today – Sunday November 1st is International Xinomavro Day!
Xinomavro is a wine grape grown throughout central & northern Greece, and some say that it is the king of Greek red grapes.
The name Xinomavro comes from the words xino (sour) and mavro (black).
In the hands of talented winemakers such as Anna Sakalaki, this grape can produce a truly wonderful wine!
2016 Xinomavro From Sakalaki Winery
This evening I am lucky enough to be enjoying a 2016 bottle of Xinomavro from Sakalaki Winery, which is located in the Kilkis regional unit of Greece, about an hour north of Thessaloniki. This is such a great wine! If you have never enjoyed Xinomavro I highly encourage you to do so, especially if it is from Sakalaki Winery!
Visit Greece!
Someday this pandemic will be behind us, and we will be able to travel the globe once again. When that day comes, I will look forward to returning to the enchanting country of Greece!
You can be certain that when I am back in Greece, I will make it a point to head back up the incredible wine region just north of the delightful city of Thessaloniki and my stops will include a visit to Sakalaki Winery.
